Create Your Map to Staffing Success

Where do you want your staffing business to be in one year? Five years? Whether you’re a start-up or an established firm, a “roadmap”, or more simply, a business plan, can be instrumental to the success of your business. Here are some steps you can take, many of which could be done simultaneously.

Step #1:

Perhaps the most major step is to identify a staffing problem in a proven market. Is there a gap you can fill? As a start-up, you can target that niche; as a going concern, you’re even in a better position to identify these service gaps by talking with your clients and using market data.

Step #2:

The next step would be to assemble a great team to make an impact on your target market. A good recruiter, for instance, can make a huge difference in whether you succeed, or not.

Step #3: 

Another step sounds like a paradox but works in a practical sense. This is to formulate a mission, a vision, and strategy, but at the same time remain flexible. This latter part is especially key for staffing, which is subject to business cycles and major ups and downs.

Step #4: 

Carefully craft these statements and then communicate them internally and to your target audience. This will make clear your core company values and explain why you’re in business, and how you will make a difference. In turn, you will use these objectives to serve as building blocks for your marketing strategies, service development and customer service.

Step #5: 

With the flexibility angle, it will help if you periodically review your mission and your strategy. This is not to say that you change your core values, but rather that you adjust to real-time issues. An example would be contemplating a new service line and then realizing that that particular market is over-saturated. It’s important to have your goals, but not be completely tied to them. New events will come about on the horizon, and you’ll have to adjust. A roadmap is not quite as easy as A to B, but it’s a great way to start on the road.
